Anniversary Date Ideas You Can Do At Home On A Budget

Exchange Love Letters

Nothing says I love you like a good old-fashioned love letter!

By now, you know all the little things that make your partner feel special.

Write down what those things are, what you love about them, and how they make you feel in a letter.

Then exchange them for a romantic and intimate moment.

Doing this activity is a great way to show your love and appreciation for your partner on your anniversary!

Plus, it is a memento you can hang onto forever.

Have A Game Night

Consider planning a game night if you’re looking for a fun and affordable way to celebrate your special day that encourages laughter and friendly competition.

You can do this alone or host a small party with your close friends or family members.

Depending on what style of games you and your partner enjoy playing, you could try some different board games, play a new video game, or have a card game tournament.

Maybe there’s a special game you played on your first date or memorable vacation?

I know couples that love a good puzzle.

You could also spice it up with Twister.

I really like this Codenames game I played at a staff party.

It’s a word association strategy game. I was pleasantly surprised to see they have a 2 player version available which is perfect for a competitive anniversary game night with your significant other!

Go Through Old Photos And Make A Photo Album

You’ve likely created a lot of special memories with your partner over the years.

So, why not take a trip down memory lane on your anniversary?

Spend the evening going through old photos and making a photo album you can flip through.

You can share some laughs, reminisce, and even dream about your future.

Cook A Fancy Dinner

Sparks can fly in the kitchen when couples cook a special meal together.

And the best part is you don’t have to break the bank on ingredients.

Look up some recipes online and get creative with what you have in your pantry.

You can even make it a fun activity and plan out the menu together!

But don’t let the magic end there for your anniversary.

Consider turning this into a special candlelight dinner with soft music playing in the background.

To make it extra fancy, you can add an ingredient like oysters to your dinner.

I love oysters and they’re a great aphrodisiac for an anniversary event!

They’re too expensive at a restaurant. I get oysters at my local seafood market for a small cost and shuck them with an oyster knife.

If you’re shucking them yourself, don’t use any other knife than an oyster knife!

We initially used a combination of a steak knife and a bottle opener. Big mistake! It was difficult to open up the oysters.

We would crack the shells and get fragments in the oyster. We also chipped the blade of the steak knife!

On a side note, I don’t think the metal glove that’s often advertised with the oyster knife is necessary.

We just wrapped the hand that was holding the oyster down in a kitchen tea towel and it worked just fine. No accidental cuts!

Have A Movie Night

Nothing is better than snuggling up with the person you love and watching a favorite movie on your anniversary.

Plus, it’s a great way to relax and spend quality time together!

To make your movie night even more unique, watch the first movie you ever saw together.

Or, if you’re feeling ambitious, recreate the theater experience by making your own popcorn, turning out the lights, and getting comfy in your living room.

To make it more fun, add butter or fun popcorn seasonings.

Plan A Scavenger Hunt

Another fun and affordable date night idea for your anniversary is planning a scavenger hunt.

You can make this as simple or elaborate as you’d like.

Start by thinking about what clues you can give your partner.

Think about items around your house, memories you share, places you’ve been or want to go, etc.

You can use these things to create your clues.

To finish off the hunt, have a surprise waiting at the end! (I recommend using one of the other ideas shared in this anniversary blog post!)

Enjoy A Spa Night At Home

Even couples on a budget can enjoy a little pampering without going to the spa!

All you have to do is get a little creative.

For example, instead of getting couples massages as you would at a spa, give each other a relaxing massage.

You could also do a face mask together, take a bubble bath, or give each other a manicure and pedicure.

You can also use items around the house, like cucumbers, honey, and almond oil, to create spa products.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure that you take time to relax and enjoy the moment with your partner.

Make A Time Capsule

Do you want to create something that future generations can look back on and enjoy?

Then why not make a time capsule for your anniversary?

You can include things like old photos, tickets from special events, and handwritten letters to each other.

You can also make this a yearly tradition by adding items each year and opening it up on your 10th anniversary.

Doing this is a great way to reflect on your shared beautiful memories.

Plus, it’s a great way to add something extra special to your anniversary.

Take An Online Cooking Class

Have you been stuck in a food rut, eating the same meals week after week?

Use your anniversary to get creative and learn something new together.

All you need is the ingredients, and you’re all set!

Doing an online cooking class is also a great way to bond with your partner.

You’ll create new memories while learning new skills you can use to your advantage after your special day.

You’d be amazed at how many free cooking classes you can find online.

Getting outdoors is a great way to spend an affordable romantic afternoon or evening together.

And if you’re feeling extra festive, you can always get some souvenirs to commemorate the occasion.

Go To A Sports Game

Do you and your partner love all things sports? Why not enjoy a sports game together?

A great way to do this and save some money is to attend a game in a minor league.

These tickets are usually much more affordable, but you still get the same great atmosphere that you would get at the major league games.

And be sure to bring your favorite snacks to munch on.

Visit The Farmer’s Market

Visiting the local farmer’s market is a great way to spend your anniversary.

You can meet local farmers and artisans there, try different foods, and shop for unique gift ideas.
