What Is A Habit Tracker?
Simply put, a habit tracker is a checklist that you can use to track whether you’re doing a habit or not.
These usually come in the form of graphs, checkboxes, etc.
Essentially, it’s an easy way to track how often you complete a particular habit, and they work amazingly well for overall habit formation!
There are also many different styles of habit trackers you can use, which means you can find something that works for you.
Why Is Habit Tracking Beneficial?
The benefits of using a habit tracker are numerous.
First and foremost, habit trackers provide a great way to track how often you’re doing new habits.
This gives you accountability, which is always good when you’re doing something new, and it will also help you track your progress overall.
In addition to using a habit tracker to track good habits, you can also use them to track bad habits.
Sometimes this can open your eyes to how often you partake in these bad habits, which may encourage you to adopt better habits or track your progress to quitting a bad habit.
Both are very beneficial!
There have even been times when a habit tracker has helped me stick to a daily routine.
First, I broke my habits into different categories, allowing me to build a routine that worked for my lifestyle.
Then, I used my habit tracker to monitor my progress with my daily routine.
Finally, habit tracking is an excellent way to help you stay accountable for your goals.
For example, if you have fitness goals, you can track how often you exercise, your water intake, healthy cooking, etc.
This works the same for financial goals, career goals, and so on.
Overall, habit tracking is super beneficial for personal development.
Not only does it encourage you to do your healthy habits daily, but it also provides you with built-in motivation and inspiration to stick to new goals and get you your desired results!

How To Set Up A Habit Tracker
There are so many different ways you can set up a habit tracker.
The key is to experiment and find what works best for you.
First, you should figure out the type of habit tracker you want to use.

Digital Habit Tracker
If you want to track your habits digitally, you’ll be happy to know there are many ways to do this.
One of the most common techniques is to use a spreadsheet.
I love using spreadsheets.

In the spreadsheet, you can see your goal progress including trends and streaks.

You can also just make a simple habit tracker on your phone or computer in the Notes app!
If you have an iPad or tablet, you could use a PDF annotation app to fill in a digital habit tracker page.
Goodnotes on the iPad is a great way to do this!

You can download these directly onto your phone to easily track habits throughout the day.
What’s cool about habit tracker apps is you get more than just the ability to track your habits.
Most of them also offer push reminders which is great if you need that little extra reminder to get something done.
Paper Habit Tracker
Sometimes there is nothing quite like using a good old pen and paper!
If this sounds more up your alley, consider learning how to draw a simple tracker on paper or find a free tracker printable you can use.
The best part of this option is how versatile it is.
If you’re looking for a pre-made paper habit tracker, I have a PDF habit tracker template.
It’s editable so you can open up Adobe Reader and type in your habits before printing it off.
Alternatively, you can just track your habits digitally on PDF.
There’s also a black and white habit tracker PDF template if you want to save money on ink.
You can also use a Bullet Journal for habit tracking and make different Bullet Journal spreads.
Alternatively, if you like to use a pre-made planner, you can set up a tracker on your planner’s monthly layout or notes page.
Your habit tracker doesn’t have to live in your planner.
You could set this up on a sheet of paper that you keep next to your coffee maker, on a wall-hung calendar, etc.

In this next section, I am sharing some of my favorite tips to narrow down your habit selection with you!
Tip #1 – Think About Your Why
When choosing what habits you will start tracking, don’t make it too complex by choosing too many of them.
Instead, focus on why you want to track them and what you hope to get out of it.
Simply answering these questions can help you narrow down to the most important ones to start.
Tip #2 – Choose Habits That Will Help You The Most
While there are many good habits you can do daily, weekly, and so on, there are undoubtedly going to be certain habits that help you more than others.
So, to get started, focus on those.
This will make habit tracking more achievable while getting you great results!
Tip #3 – Keep Them Aligned With Your Goals
Habits and goals work so well together. So, choose habits that will align with those goals, big or small!
This will help you get the results you aim for much faster.
Tip #4 – Keep It Simple!
Lastly, I encourage you to keep it super simple!
You might find this process overwhelming if you have 30 daily habits to track right off the hop. Instead, focus on just a few until you get into a rhythm.
Then, slowly add in more as you go along.
